Tributes have been paid this January, which has been a sad month so far, due to the passing of Lemmy of Motorhead, David Bowie and Alan Rickman. The outpouring of love and affection for this high-profile group of talented individuals has been quite incredible.

Tributes

Lemmy Kilminster

Lemmy’s funeral was streamed live over the Internet on YouTube and fans were invited to raise a glass and toast the Motorhead frontman. There was a celebration of Lemmy’s life at his favourite bar, The Rainbow Bar & Grill.

David Bowie

David Bowie died on Sunday just two days after he released his album, Blackstar on his 69th birthday.

Bowie was diagnosed with cancer about 18 months ago but he chose not announce his illness. Many of his fans thought he had become a bit reclusive. It was only his close family who knew he was seriously ill.

Bowie was an iconic figure who influenced and entertained us for over 5 decades. Always interesting and full of surprises it seems Bowie chose a simple cremation with no ceremony.

Alan Rickman

Alan Rickman lost his battle with cancer on 14th January. He was perhaps most famous for his role as Severus Snape in the Harry Potter films – but there was a lot more to him than that role. An acclaimed stage actor, he performed with the RSC in both modern and classical productions.

Other notable film roles were; Jamie in Truly Madly Deeply, The Sheriff of Nottingham in Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves, Hans Gruber in Die Hard and Dr. Lazarus in Galaxy Quest.
